Biblical archaeology has once again uncovered a remarkable piece of evidence supporting the accounts in the Holy Scriptures. Recently, researchers analysed sediments in the Dead Sea and discovered traces of a significant earthquake. This event occurred precisely at the time when the Lord Jesus was crucified in Jerusalem.
The Gospel of Matthew recounts this moment with striking detail. The Bible says:
“And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth shook, and the rocks were split” (Matthew 27:51).
For many years, sceptics dismissed this passage as symbolic language. Yet scientific studies now point to a layer of disturbed soil dating between 26 AD and 36 AD. Geologists then compared this geological evidence with astronomical records from the same period. Their findings point to a highly probable date: 3 April 33 AD—precisely when the Jewish Passover took place.
In other words, the data suggests that nature itself responded to the Messiah’s sacrifice, just as the Bible records.
This discovery strengthens the confidence of those seeking the truth. After all, the findings show that the biblical authors were not invented stories. They recorded real events that impacted both the physical and spiritual worlds.
Many people look at the Bible and see only an ordinary book or a collection of moral advice. But biblical archaeology proves otherwise.
Here are why these findings are so significant:
- Real History: Science confirms that biblical stories happened in actual locations and at precise times. This shows that faith is based on facts, not human invention.
- Perfect Unity: Although the Bible was written by different people across centuries. Even so, all the texts fit together perfectly. Only God’s hand could guide so many authors to speak the same spiritual language without contradictions.
- Living Context: These studies help us better understand how people lived, thought, and felt during Jesus’ time. This makes reading the Word far richer and more relatable.
- Unchanging Text: When comparing ancient copies of the Bible with modern ones, we see that the message has not changed. God has preserved His Word intact through the centuries so that it reaches you with the same authority.
In short, what science discovers today confirms what Christians already know through the Holy Spirit: The Bible is absolute truth.
It is also worth noting that, above all, the text speaks directly to the human soul (which is why the Bible is so timeless):
“For the Word of God is living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword” (Hebrews 4:12).
