Every day, we receive warnings designed to protect us, whether it’s a weather alert, a smoke alarm, or a road sign ahead. Their purpose is not to frighten us but to give us the chance to act before it’s too late.
The same is true of the warnings God gives throughout the Bible. Far from being messages of fear, biblical prophecies are expressions of His love and mercy, calling people to turn to Him while there is still time.
This is the purpose of the Night of the Trumpet series. Through a study of biblical prophecy, the meetings explain not only what the Bible says about the last days, but more importantly, how we should prepare spiritually for the return of the Lord Jesus.
Last Wednesday’s message focused on the main purpose of the prophetic warnings recorded in the Bible. More than revealing future events, God announces what is to come to give people the opportunity to change their lives.
Since the Old Testament, the trumpet has had two distinct purposes: to call people to repentance and to warn when the time of opportunity was coming to an end.
Today, that warning continues in many ways. God speaks through His Word, through world events, and through the prophetic signs. Yet, many people overlook these warnings or fail to recognise their significance. God does not desire to condemn anyone, that is why He warns us in advance. The study also looked at prophecies concerning the end times, including Matthew 24:29–31 and Revelation chapters 13 and 14. Although modern technology makes some of the events described in these passages easier to understand today, the emphasis was not on identifying every prophetic detail. Instead, the focus was on being spiritually prepared.
Preparing for the return of the Lord Jesus means living a life of continual repentance, obedience and seeking the Holy Spirit (His Spirit dwelling within us). More important than desiring God’s blessings is allowing Him to take complete control of our lives.
Those who place their lives in God’s hands and receive the Holy Spirit find guidance, strength and direction for every situation. Rather than becoming consumed with predicting future events, our priority should be developing a genuine relationship with God. The Holy Spirit leads us into all truth, strengthens our faith and prepares us to remain until the end.
