Transparency is a vital principle in every aspect of life — particularly when it comes to relationships. When this is genuinely embraced, it helps in three key ways:
This was the next tool explored during the Love Therapy seminar held last Thursday, led by Bishop James Marques and his wife, Helena.
In a world where hiding the truth or avoiding tough conversations can often seem easier, transparency stands out as a key to a healthy and genuine relationship.
By being open from the beginning, you avoid the tiring process of going backwards to fix mistakes. When truth comes first, the need to rebuild trust is eliminated — it’s already there.
As the Bible says: “Before the throne there was a sea of glass, like crystal.” (Revelation 4:6)
“…And the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.” (Revelation 21:21)
In heaven, the glory of God shines so brightly that there’s no need for a sun — His light reveals everything. And the same principle applies to relationships.
In marriage or in any relationship, transparency is essential for building trust. Where there are secrets or omissions, insecurity sets in and doubt arises. On the other hand, transparency promotes security.
Knowing what is happening in the other person’s life, their intentions and thoughts, strengthens bonds and ensures that the relationship is built on mutual trust and respect. However, when there is no transparency, it can show a lack of character.
Mrs Helena offered a tip to the men: transparency is attractive. Yet, when we discover something that was hidden, it becomes difficult to trust anything said afterward.
Transparency also reflects our communion with God. After all, those who live in truth have nothing to hide. Furthermore, sincerity with God is the foundation for a clean life, without guilt or remorse. In other words, when you live in peace with God, you naturally begin to live a transparent and genuine way with those around you.
