The First Fight of the Day

Waking Up

Every morning, before our feet even touch the floor, a battle is already underway. It is not a physical war, but a spiritual one – a daily, invisible conflict that targets our beliefs, values and trust in God. You open your eyes and the first thing you see is your phone. A flood of messages, negative news, and social media comparisons invades your mind before you’ve even had a chance to say “Good morning” to God. The day hasn’t truly begun and yet your spirit already feels burdened.

This isn’t accidental – it’s strategic. From the moment we wake up, evil has already laid out a strategy to weaken our faith, distract us from God’s presence and debilitate our spiritual strength. Often, these attacks don’t come with flashing lights or loud threats – they are subtle. It begins with simple thoughts: “I will pray tomorrow morning” or “I’m too tired to read the Bible now; I’ll do it when I’m rested and focused.” Before you know it, these thoughts turn into discouragement, and doubt creeps in: “Nothing is changing in my life. Is it really worth going to church? If God truly cared, wouldn’t my situation be different by now?”

Throughout the day, these spiritual attacks continue through unexpected problems at work, misunderstandings, temptations, and feelings of fear and insecurity. You may start questioning your worth, your purpose, and even God’s presence. But again, these struggles are not random; they are calculated attacks designed to weaken your faith.

That’s why the Bible urges us to be watchful. 1 Peter 5:8 states, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” The devil never rests, and neither should our spiritual guard. But how do we do this in practical terms? How can we effectively protect our faith?

At the Universal Church, we believe that faith must be developed and protected daily. That’s why every Wednesday we are hosting a special Bible Study titled “Defending Our Faith.” This is more than a Bible Study; it’s a “spiritual warfare” training where you will learn, based on the Word of God, how to identify and understand evil tactics and protect yourself from them.

Whether you’re new to faith or have walked with God for years, this understanding is crucial for remaining strong until the end. Don’t take your salvation for granted. Be proactive and defend your faith. Join us at your nearest Universal Church.
