On the evening of Sunday, 8 June, the highly anticipated Psalms in Concert event brought together hundreds of people at the Rainbow Theatre for a remarkable and transformative moment of faith.
This was the first time in over 40 years that the historic venue, which hosted many concerts from the 60’s to the 80’s, held a musical event. However, this was no ordinary concert; it was a deeply spiritual gathering where music served not as entertainment but as a tool for renewal, connection, and praise. The theatre did not echo with cheers or applause, but with the unified sound of voices lifted in worship.
The evening began with an introductory video and a welcome message from Bishop James Marques, who explained the purpose of the event, which was to sanctify the name of the Lord Jesus.
“The book of Psalms is written in a way that you can identify yourself with what you read. That’s because the Psalmists wrote these words based on the experiences they were going through. As you sing these songs, you will see your life in these words. God will bring you strength and guidance through them”, the Bishop explained.
Throughout the night, eight Psalms were performed, each carefully selected to address the spiritual needs of those present. Following each Psalm, Bishop James shared insights into its deeper spiritual meaning, accompanied by a prayer related to the message of that Psalm.
The focus of the evening was not on the vocalists’ skills or musical arrangements – although both were beautifully executed. Instead, the emphasis was on the spiritual content of the Psalms. Attendees were not mere spectators; they were participants, invited to engage with the words, absorb their meanings and respond in prayer and praise, uniting in one voice to seek God.
One of the highlights was Psalm 19, which served as a reminder of the value of God’s Word and the importance of meditating on it. Bishop James encouraged attendees to reflect: “When was the last time you really took a moment to pick up the Bible and read it? The Word of God has never been as accessible as it is today – we can even have it on our mobile devices. When someone meditates on His Word, they are bringing His thoughts and principles into their minds.”
The special event concluded with Psalm 126, which reminded everyone that no matter how desolate or troubled one’s life may seem, God has the power to restore it. Just as He once rebuilt Jerusalem, He is still at work today – restoring, rebuilding and bringing joy where sorrow once reigned.
Attendee Anusha Keitheswaran commented, “Although I knew some specific songs, today, when they were sung, I was able to gain a deeper understanding of their meaning. I was even inspired to revisit these verses when I go home to explore them more deeply and see what God wants to say to me through them.”
“What stood out to me the most was that, no matter the situation or problem that I may be going through, I don’t need to panic or worry. I just have to remember that God is with me”, added Jordan Thomas.
Psalms in Concert was more than just a musical event; it was a spiritual milestone – a night when attendees left not with souvenirs or recordings, but with something far more valuable: a renewed connection to the Most High. Click here for more photos and highlights from the day.
