Give God What’s God’s

First Fruits
Last week we learnt a lesson from Jesus about a simple coin—The Denarius.

Now, you might be thinking, “What could a coin possibly relate to my spiritual life?”

The story of the Denarius might seem to be about money, but the message behind it, carries much more weight. It challenges us to reflect on where our loyalty truly lies — whether with the kingdom of this world or with the Kingdom of God.

The lesson of the Denarius revealed the importance of being fair in everything, including when dealing with money. In Matthew 22:15-21, Jesus was asked Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?” He pointed to the Denarius, with Caesar’s face on it, and said, “Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”

It was a powerful lesson in fairness, justice and integrity. Even Jesus, despite being the Son of God, paid taxes – not because He had to, but because He wanted to set an example. His life consistently demonstrated that what we believe should be reflected in how we live, including in how we handle money.

This links directly to the biblical principle of tithing, as found in Malachi 3:10. Tithing means setting aside the first 10% of what we receive but for many, tithing can feel like a struggle. Yet, we don’t think twice about paying taxes on groceries, rent, and everyday expenses.

Here’s the key difference: tithing isn’t about money. It’s about trust. It’s about placing God first in every area of your life — not just in words, but in action. It’s about recognising that everything we have comes from Him, and returning our tithe is a way of honouring Him and demonstrating our faithfulness.

By living according to His principles, we align ourselves with the Kingdom of God and place Him first in our lives. We warmly invite you to join us this Sunday at 10am for ‘The Feast of the First Fruits’—a time to give back to God what is His, dive into His Word and seek His presence together. It’s a moment to renew your covenant and draw closer to Him.
