Everyone needs Help sometimes

Everyones needs help

It’s a known fact that human beings rely on each other to survive.

In fact, a study conducted by Julianne Holt-Lunstad, a professor of Psychology, showed that “a lack of social connection heightens health risks as much as smoking 15 cigarettes a day or having alcohol use disorder.”

This shocking discovery makes it very clear – permanently living an independent and solitary life can have more harmful than beneficial effects.

This is because no matter who we are, the status we hold, or money we possess, we all at some point need help from someone. Whether that be a family member, friend, colleague and sometimes strangers.

In an interview with Rolling Stone US, Selena Gomez shared some of her experiences battling with mental health and her diagnosis of bipolar disorder. This long-winded battle which stretched over a decade affected her career and even relationships, and as a result she entered a downward spiral of loneliness and feelings of worthlessness.

Last year, she released a documentary, with hopes to shed light on battles she faced behind the scenes, including episodes of mania, in which she struggled to sleep for days, as well as episodes of depression, which later developed into an episode of psychosis.

She spent several months in a treatment facility and her loved ones reported that she was in an “unrecognisable” state during that period.

Gomez is receiving medical support to help her control her mood and mental well-being. Her story proves to us that we will all need help at some point in our lives and reaching out for help is not a matter of weakness, but a brave step towards a new life.

Likewise, if your mental health is affecting your ability to carry out your daily tasks, you are advised to seek immediate medical attention. You will receive the appropriate advice and treatment for your specific needs.

The Bible speaks about the importance of living in communities and encourages us to help one another:

Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2 NKJV)

When experiencing a problem in your mental health, it can be hard to find the light at the end of the tunnel and imagine yourself being happy again. That’s why having the right people around you can help you to be hopeful and maintain a strong spirit (mind) during your journey towards recovery.
