“A fé me curou da depressão”, diz Dwayne Johnson

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, instituição de caridade, jogador de futebol, qualidade fundamental da fé, todo esse tempo,

Dwayne Johnson has just been announced as the protagonist of one of the main productions of DC Comics, producer of superhero films and responsible, for example, for the Batman and Superman franchises. The actor will give life to the villain Adam Negro, one of the greatest characters in the history of the brand.

Since 2014, Johnson has been involved with the character. At first, he would participate in another film, “Shazam”. The actor’s talent and success in recent works, however, earned him the opportunity to be the star of a superhero feature film.

In recent years, Johnson has starred in several films that have become hits around the world, such as “Earthquake”, “Hercules” and the “Fast and Furious” franchise. But those who know his career now might not imagine that he was close to giving up on his own life.

The Rock’s Depression

Dwayne Johnson was a promising football player in his youth. At the age of 19, he won the national championship with his team, the Miami Hurricanes , but was forced to temporarily take a break from the sport because of an injury. The following year he was hired by a Canadian team, however, without the performance of the previous year, he was fired.

“All the dreams I had are gone. There would be no more football. It was my worst moment,” Johnson said in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter website . “I didn’t want to do anything. I didn’t want to go anywhere. I was crying constantly. There comes a time when you just cry.”

This depression lasted approximately 1 month, enough time to despair the star’s family. He was a young man who dedicated his whole life to football and, suddenly, he saw his goals destroyed. He remained inside the apartment he lived in all this time , practically immobile, with no expectations of a better future.

The situation lasted until the boy realized that he could rely on something bigger than himself.

“I have found that in depression one of the most important things to realize is that you are not alone,” he said in a video for Oprah’s Master Class . “You just feel like you’re alone. And you feel like it’s just you and you’re in your bubble.”

To get out of this bubble of hurt, the actor had an unexpected help, which was revealed to him at that moment and accompanies him until today: faith.

“You just have to remember: hold on to the fundamental quality of faith . Have faith. And on the other side of your pain is something good.”

Johnson was even asked to return to the football team, but declined the invitation because he felt more willing to practice wrestling. By the end of the 1990s, he was considered one of the greatest fighters in the history of the sport, earning him the nickname “The Rock”.

In the early 2000s, he accepted invitations from Hollywood and starred in “The Mummy Returns” and “The Scorpion King”. Today he is one of the most successful actors in the world.

the faith that heals

Throughout his career, “The Rock” has emphasized in interviews the importance of his faith in God to overcome obstacles, as has his “Fast and Furious” companion, actor Tyrese Gibson. That’s the message he takes, for example, to terminally ill children cared for by his charity , the Dwayne The Rock Johnson Foundation .

“I doubt that there is medicine that cures depression, just as I doubt that anyone practicing faith in the Word of God is depressed. From a spiritual point of view, depression is nothing more than a permanent state of doubt”, says Bishop Edir Macedo.

“And I wish I had someone in those times who just put the phrase into me, ‘Hey, everything’s going to be okay,’” Johnson said. For him, that Someone was God. It can be for you too.
