One of the greatest transformations a person can experience during the Fast of Daniel is the renewal of the mind.

In a world that constantly bombards our thoughts with negativity, fear, doubt and confusion, it’s easy to develop a mindset that is far from what God intended. However, we must not accept this as our reality, as the way we think determines the way we live.

That’s why the Apostle Paul wrote, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” (Romans 12:2). When our thoughts change, our decisions and actions follow.

The Bible tells us that we are called to have the mind of Christ (see 1 Corinthians 2:16), and the first step to achieve this is to meditate on His Word. By meditating, we don’t mean merely reading, but rather taking pauses to reflect deeply on specific verses and passages, absorbing the Spirit of the Word and allowing it to shape our perspective.

Here are four practical tips to help you on this journey:

Ask God for direction: Before you open your Bible, take a moment to pray. Ask God for spiritual understanding and to speak to you through His Word. Invite the Holy Spirit to guide your thoughts and reveal what He wants you to learn.

Read with focus: Don’t rush through chapters. Even a single verse can change your life if you read it with an open heart.

Take notes: Keep a notebook handy to write down verses that stand out to you, along with your understanding of those verses and what God revealed to you through them.

When applicable, incorporate your reading into prayer: For instance, if you read about the importance of forgiveness and realise you still hold grudges against someone, ask the Lord for the strength to forgive that person. If you read about trusting in God, then pray, “Lord, help me to trust You in this situation…”

Renewing your mind through the Word isn’t just about gaining knowledge; it’s about transformation. As you meditate on the Bible, absorb God’s way of thinking and act on what you’ve learned, you will see His power at work in your life. You will resist temptation more effectively and face challenges with greater faith and peace.

Your thoughts will change, your faith will grow and your life will never be the same!
