The Justice of the United States, through documents, revealed that, at the time of the death of the singer Prince, in April 2016, several controlled substances were found in his house, which could only have been purchased with a medical prescription.

Most of these substances were painkillers that were disguised in places like vitamin pots. This revelation strengthens the thesis that Prince abused controlled substances not only on that April 21st, but really was addicted to prescription drugs.

The doctor who accompanied Prince, Michael Schulenberg, admitted that he facilitated the singer’s access to controlled substances, including offering prescriptions to his employees. One of those employees, Kirk Johnson, confessed to investigators that Prince struggled with legal drug addiction.

Medicines exist to help sick people. However, many end up abusing them and becoming slaves to medications. They take medicine to sleep, to wake up, to stop the headache, to be hungry, not to be hungry, not to get depressed, to lose weight. There are so many types of drugs sold in pharmacies that the habit of not even consulting a doctor before ingesting these substances has been created.

A survey carried out in Brazil by the Institute of Science, Technology and Quality (ICTQ) revealed, at the end of 2016, that 72% of the Brazilian population takes medication without a medical prescription. According to experts, this is the first step towards becoming addicted to these legal drugs.

Addiction to prescription drugs is just as dangerous as addiction to cocaine or another prohibited drug. The difference is that it takes longer for the addict to accept that he is an addict, which can lead to tragedies, as in the case of Prince. That’s why family is so important in these moments.

Spiritual battle

It is necessary to understand that dependence on the family member is not a lack of character, misconduct or a matter of behavior, but a spirit that dominates the mind of the addict. “Knowing this, one begins to understand that the battle is strictly spiritual and that the family must fight with all its might to free its relative from the dominion of that spirit”, says Bishop Edir Macedo.

If the fight is spiritual, the weapon to win it, consequently, must be spiritual too. Addiction Treatment has demonstrated that God is able to defeat any chemical addiction.

“Thousands of people have been definitively healed,” says the bishop. “What the family needs to do is come to treatment, believe, persevere and obey. Thus, she will have her transformed familiar back.”
