One Word

What if the words you have heard about your life do not have to determine how your future turns out? There is one word just for you that could change everything.

The Weight of Words

Words can leave a deep impression

What if the words you have heard about your life do not have to determine how your future turns out?

Many people carry certain words with them for years:

  • “You are not good enough.”
  • “You will never make it.”
  • “You are not loved.”
  • “It will always be this way.”

Words like these can become deeply rooted. The more we hear them, the easier it can be to accept them as the truth. Over time they can influence the decisions we make and shape the future we imagine for ourselves.

A New Direction

But what if you could hear a different word?

At the Universal Church, we have seen how one word can make a difference in a person’s life. This is why we believe that one word is enough to change your life.

The right word can give someone hope when they have run out of it. It can provide direction when they do not know where to turn. And when that Word comes from God, believing it and putting it into practice can change the course of a person’s life.

Which words have you been listening to?

We all hear thousands of words every day, yet some remain with us more than others.

A negative word can affect the way someone sees their marriage, family, career, health or even themselves. Someone who has repeatedly been told that they will never amount to anything may eventually believe it. Someone who has been told that their relationship is beyond repair may give up on the possibility of restoration.

Words leave an impression. They can affect how we think, how we feel and even how we respond to the situations around us. But just how much of an effect can words have?

The Rice Experiment

The Power of Words

You may have heard of the well-known experiment conducted by Dr Masaru Emoto. He placed rice into three separate glass beakers, covered each one with water and treated them differently. Positive words were spoken to one container, negative words to another, while a third was ignored.

After a month, the differences were clear. The rice that had been spoken to positively had fermented and developed a pleasant aroma, while the second had turned black. The rice that had been ignored had begun to rot.

Whether or not we can draw conclusions about the effect of words from an experiment like this, it raises an interesting question: what happens when we hear certain words repeatedly and eventually begin to believe them?

Promises · Guidance · Encouragement

This is where the Word of God comes in

The Bible is filled with promises, guidance and encouragement for people facing every kind of situation. For someone who feels lost, one word can provide direction. For someone who feels hopeless, it can bring a reason to keep going. For someone who feels trapped by their past, it can open the possibility of a different future.

On Sunday 1 November at 10am, all Universal Churches across the UK will be holding the One Word event.

The purpose is simple: there is a word from God that can speak directly to your situation. Something you may need to hear, understand and, most importantly, put into practice.
