We now have Food Banks in 14 different locations!
The Universal Church has now opened up a total of 14 different Food Banks, the latest opening having been in Newcastle, in North England.

From 11am until 1pm, on the day of the inauguration, our volunteers helped serve around 60 people who left with food parcels and a smile or at least with one less worry on their minds. One man who came to us said he was very grateful because if it wasn’t for the help food bank provides, he would’ve starved.

The Food Bank was able to distribute to so many people thanks to the donations from Gregg’s, Morrisons, Asda and People’s Kitchen among others. Our seven volunteers prepared handy packages with different items the night before to make it even easier for users.

One of our volunteers, Vanussa, said that she was “very excited to be helping out” and that “the best thing was that because our Newcastle branch is located in the town centre, it was easier to spread the word”.

The need for Food Banks has greatly increased in recent times. A research briefing posted in the House of Commons Library states that there was a 62% increase in emergency food parcel distribution in October 2020 compared with October 2019.

We are consistently dedicated to helping our local communities where our Universal Church is based, if you know anyone that can benefit from our work please inform them by sharing this article.

We have weekly Food Banks every Saturday in the following locations: Plaistow, Edmonton, Stamford Hill, Croydon, Hackney, Stratford, Tooting, Nottingham, Sheffield, Lozells, Bullring, Wood Green, Hammersmith, and Newcastle. For full addresses, please visit uckg.org/addresses
