The Silent Marriage<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>

People often say that good communication is the foundation of any strong relationship. But imagine being married to someone who refuses to speak to you\u2014for twenty years. That’s exactly what happened with a Japanese couple from the Nara region.<\/p>

Otou Katayama and his wife Yumi lived under the same roof, raised three children together, and yet Otou didn’t speak a single word to his wife for two whole decades. Yes, really.<\/p>

It all began when their relationship hit a rocky patch. For reasons that weren’t entirely clear at the time, Otou simply stopped talking to Yumi. Despite her efforts to reach out and start conversations, all she ever got in return were the occasional grunt or nod\u2014nothing more.<\/p>

What’s even more surprising is that Yumi never considered leaving him. There was no talk of divorce or even a separation. In fact, during this long silence, they went on to have a third child together.<\/p>

Otou later admitted he felt that all of Yumi’s attention was focused on the children and he was being left out. Rather than express how he felt, he chose silence.<\/p>
