In an interview with The Guardian in 2020, American singer Cher said that she “hates” ageing. The 73-year-old, who added that she would never let her hair grow grey, is not alone in this. Millions of people around the world have waged war against growing old, arming themselves with cosmetic products and aesthetic procedures in a bid to win the battle against the ageing process.
Altos Labs — a biotechnology company that specialises in cellular rejuvenation programming —, is said to be a step closer to finding the secret to eternal youth. The US and UK based company aims to “hack” the ageing process through cellular reprogramming. The initiative was compared to “restoring an electronic device to factory settings.” Supporters of the ambitious project include Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos and 60-year-old billionaire Yuri Milner, and a total of $3 billion was already invested in the company.
Although Alto Labs is also working for its initiative to bring health benefits and help fight diseases such as diabetes, arthritis and dementia, the company’s biological reprogramming technology has received criticism amidst claims that it would only benefit the rich.
No matter how much life is prolonged, the fact is that death comes to us all and our body has an expiry date. But on the other hand, our soul is eternal, and that brings another question: if our soul never dies, where does it go after the death of our bodies?
