\"\"<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>On January 25, in the middle of lunchtime, Brazil was shocked by the news of another environmental disaster in the state of Minas Gerais: a dam managed by the giant mining company Vale that broke in the city of Brumadinho, in the metropolitan region of the capital <\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span><\/a> Belo Horizon.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

More than 12 million cubic meters of mud were released on company workers and residents of the Vila Farteco neighborhood, who were submerged after the dam ruptured.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

So far, 110 people have died, while 238 are missing, according to the Fire Brigade. <\/span>The Paraopeba River, one of the main rivers in the region, was also covered in mud, causing an irreparable loss of wildlife and fish. <\/span>Among the victims is Roselia Alves Rodrigues Silva, 36, a volunteer assistant at the Universal Church in Brazil. <\/span>She is a nutritionist at the company’s restaurant, in one of the areas most affected by muddy waters. <\/span>She is still missing.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Solidarity<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

In the midst of this tragedy, disaster victims received help from generous people who could not sit still. <\/span>The Universal Church of Minas Gerais also mobilized its members to provide help to affected families.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Every church in the state became a collection point. <\/span>More than 1,000 volunteers are supporting affected families. <\/span>Drinking water, clothes, food, personal care products, mattresses, pillows and blankets were donated.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe have support teams in the hospitals and shelters where these families go, to give spiritual support and help the afflicted and desperate\u201d, said Bishop Rog\u00e9rio Formigoni, responsible for the Universal Church in Minas Gerais.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cEvery donation that we are receiving, at this moment, is being taken by the National Guard to be distributed in support places. <\/span>Our team has been on duty since yesterday and we are at their disposal\u201d, concluded the bishop.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
