Last Sunday, the 12th, Iran was hit by the second most devastating earthquake in its history. <\/span>The tremor occurred in the city of Halabjah, located in Iraq and close to the border with Iran, and left more than 500 dead, in addition to around 7,000 injured. <\/span>Nine people died in neighboring Iraq, with 535 injured. <\/span>One of the hardest hit areas was the province of Kermanshah, where several buildings were destroyed. <\/span>The earthquake is one of the most serious Iran has ever faced, with more than 150 subsequent tremors recorded, which could be felt in several cities affected by the disaster.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Iranian President Hassan Rouhani traveled to Kermanshah on Tuesday to monitor rescue efforts. <\/span>He spoke to reporters present at the scene: \u201cI offer my condolences to all the victims of this disaster and ask the Most High for mercy for those who lost their lives and a full recovery for all those injured, as well as patience and health for all fellow Iranians. who have lost their loved ones.\u201d <\/span>In addition to the president, the Iranian ministers of Health and the Interior also accompanied the rescue work.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n As the Iranian government works to help those affected, it is clear that this devastating tragedy with hundreds of lives lost will leave a deep mark on all survivors of this tragic disaster. <\/span>Speaking about the feeling at the site after the earthquake, a resident of Kermanshah released a video amidst the rubble where he reports: \u201cWe still can’t get help. <\/span>We have no water, food, clothing or shelter. <\/span>We are without electricity, water, gas and telephone line. <\/span>It’s all out of order. <\/span>The city was completely destroyed. <\/span>It’s devastated.”<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n This is one of the worst earthquakes in Iran’s history, behind the earthquake that hit the city of Bam in 2003, when more than 26,000 people died.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n If you have been affected by the events in Iran and need moral or spiritual support, please contact our 24h Helpline: 020 7272 1010.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n *Sources:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n http:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2017\/11\/14\/asia\/iran-iraq-earthquake\/index.html<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n
