On May 17th, one of the great exponents of American rock died. <\/span>Chris Cornell was the founder of the bands Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple of the Dog, in addition to having built <\/span><\/span>a solid<\/span><\/span><\/a> solo career in 33 years dedicated to music.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Despite the success, Cornell committed suicide by hanging, after a concert held in the city of Detroit, Michigan (United States). <\/span>According to the singer’s wife, Vicky Cornell, he would never have taken that attitude if he had been aware of what he was doing. <\/span>That’s why she believes that the medicine ingested by the singer influenced his decision.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHis world revolved around family first and, of course, music second\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/em> , Vicky declared on her social networks. <\/span><\/span>\u201cWhen we talked after the show, I noticed that he was speaking with difficulty; <\/span>he was different. <\/span>When he told me he might have taken a pill or two too many of his medicine, I contacted security and asked them to keep an eye on him.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Chris Cornell was treated with an antidepressant indicated both to control anxiety and to inhibit chemical dependence. <\/span>His attorney, Kirk Pasich, said the singer, “a recovering addict”, had a prescription for the drug and may have taken more than the recommended dose. <\/span>According to Pasich, side effects of this drug include paranoid or suicidal thoughts, difficulty speaking, and poor judgment.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The British newspaper <\/span><\/span>Daily Mail<\/span><\/span><\/em> published that Cornell’s show with Soundgarden was successful and, after the presentation, the singer seemed happy to take several pictures with fans and sign autographs, including stating that he would see them in Columbus (capital of the state North American from Ohio), where the band had already scheduled another performance.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Like Cornell, many drug addicts seek healing in legal drug treatments, especially antidepressants. <\/span>The problem is that these drugs are also addictive and often have disastrous side effects.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The medicine that the singer would have taken too much, among others, made the <\/span><\/span>Food and Drug Administration<\/span><\/span><\/em> \u00a0(FDA, the US agency responsible for protecting and promoting public health) issue an alert a few years ago. <\/span>In that statement, the FDA highlighted that these products can cause depression and suicidal thoughts. <\/span>Therefore, the use of these drugs must be extremely controlled.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Unfortunately, in the search for a <\/span><\/span>cure for a problem<\/span><\/span><\/a> as serious as chemical dependency, many people undergo treatments that rarely have any effects and, in some cases, even make the situation worse.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

For Bishop Edir Macedo, founder and leader of <\/span><\/span>Centro de Ajuda<\/span><\/span><\/a> , these people must, before anything else, seek help from God, because He is the only one capable of freeing them from the spirit of addiction.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAddiction is a spirit. <\/span>And, because it is a spirit, only the power of the Spirit of God is capable of pulling it out, of neutralizing it\u201d, says the bishop. <\/span>\u201cThe whole hell can come, which is unable to prevail, because the Spirit of Faith is what neutralizes, ends, destroys any spirit of addiction.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
