Shall we do a reflection exercise? <\/span>Think of an addicted person and everything related to that person. <\/span>Have you thought? <\/span>Most likely you imagined someone in a bad state, bewildered and using some drug, such as alcohol, cocaine or something similar. <\/span>But linking the word addiction only to the use of narcotics is <\/span><\/span>a big mistake<\/span><\/span><\/a> . <\/span>After all, addiction is the habit of doing something over and over again, which brings momentary pleasure but ultimately harms us.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Margaret Murphy, 45, is an example of this. <\/span>She used to live in Dublin, Ireland, which has a cold and rainy climate, and moved to sunny Crete, Greece. <\/span>There, the woman created the habit of sunbathing and ended up becoming addicted to tanning. <\/span>For 10 years she remained in the sun frequently and without protection. <\/span>\u201cI spent a decade living in Crete and tanning to look good, believing that because I was already tan I didn’t need sunscreen,\u201d she wrote on her social media.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

And unfortunately, in December of last year, she had to <\/span><\/span>start a<\/span><\/span><\/a> 28-day course of treatment to remove pre-cancerous lesions from her face ( <\/span><\/span>see above<\/span><\/span><\/strong> ).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Observing what Margaret did, we can identify that we all have some addiction: eating sweets every day, being dependent on someone, telling lies, seeing inappropriate content on the internet, among many others. <\/span>Attitudes that seem common, but that, over time, will bring consequences, whether for health, relationships or spiritual life.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe first step to getting rid of it (an addiction) is to recognize that you have it. <\/span>The second step is admitting that you need help to stop. <\/span>The mark of the addict is lying to yourself, saying ‘I can stop whenever I want’. <\/span>If you could, you would have stopped\u201d, explains writer <\/span><\/span>Renato Cardoso<\/span><\/span><\/a> .<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
