Much More Than a Palm Branch

in the name of the Lord, presence of God,

Much More Than a Palm Branch
Did you know palm branches were considered symbols of victory and triumph?

Palm Sunday commemorates Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem. As He rode into the city on a donkey, His followers spread palm branches at His feet and called Him “Hosanna.”

“And a very great multitude spread their clothes on the road; others cut down branches from the trees and spread them on the road. Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying: “Hosanna to the Son of David! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ Hosanna in the highest!” (Matthew 21:8-9).

The clothes and the palm branches that were laid on the road were a welcome offering to the Messiah. This form of greeting was common when kings returned home in triumph from their battles. Those who were financially independent took off their cloaks and spread them along the way, while the poor adorned the ground with branches from trees. As the king entered the city, everyone offered their best to honour Him. But what does this mean to you?

We invite you to bring along a palm branch to your local Universal Church this Sunday 10th April. We will not rein-act what happened in Jerusalem, but we will pray with the palm branch in our hands and it will be a sign of accepting the Lord Jesus in your life as king. Then when you take the palm branch home you will determine triumphant victories in your family and for the presence of God to reign in your household.

It will be much more than a palm branch!
