45 years of Universal Church: Voluntary work
On July 9th, 2022, the Universal Church will celebrate its 45th anniversary. To mark the occasion, we’ll be publishing articles highlighting the values ​​that describe a little bit of the history of the Church over these years.

In today’s article, you will be able to read about some of the social actions that benefit thousands of people through donations. There have been so many mobilisations over the past four decades.

For 45 years, the Universal Church has worked tirelessly and unceasingly to bring love and help to all in need, without distinction.

Drilhando a fome 768x511 1An initiative of Unisocial, from the Universal Church in Brazil, promoted a meeting, at Arena Barueri, in Greater São Paulo, in order to fight hunger that has mainly affected low-income families throughout the Country. On the occasion, 580 thousand reais (£89,721) were raised and invested in tons of food.

As well as this initiative, the Universal Church has helped everyone in different ways, such as those who were affected by natural catastrophes, such as victims of landslides, as a result of heavy rains, in Pernambuco. In Petrópolis, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, volunteers also joined forces to support the homeless.

The Universal Church also provides all necessary assistance to people worldwide. For example,we set up an appeal to send humanitarian aid to victims of the war in Ukraine. Trucks with tens of tons of food arrived in Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital.

Humanitarian aid also reached the Ukrainian refugees through “Operation Ukraine”, which mobilised volunteers from Belgium and Luxembourg, and managed to raise 22 tons of food, in addition to more than a ton of clothes and shoes.

Another notable moment abroad was the event “Driblando a Fome”. In Japan, aid reached hundreds of people.

Filipinas 768x364 1In the Philippines, aid reached victims of the Taal volcano in January 2020. In Australia, volunteers mobilised to help people in one of the most difficult moments in its history, when more than 1,500 homes were affected by wildfire.

In addition, members of the Universal Church of South Africa are also mobilising to offer humanitarian aid to those affected by cyclones in neighbouring countries. Another significant moment was when the event “Solidarity without Nationality” helped refugees in Romania. On this occasion, volunteers donated 24.7 tons of food, water and hygiene products.

The Covid-19 pandemic made it harder for us to continue our work, but the Universal Church did not give up. Taking all the necessary precautions, the volunteers worked tirelessly for those who were struggling financially due to the pandemic.
