His first time
An experience not to forget

The days were long and boring in the desert but he had no choice because that was where he fled to live for the rest of his life. He now had a family of his own which was nice and comforting, but still life in the desert was not how he had envisioned his future.

Moses was shepherding his father-in-law’s herd, as he had done every day for the last 40 years when, he suddenly saw a bush on fire. At first he thought the heat of the sun had probably caused it, but as he watched he noticed that the bush had not been consumed… he was intrigued.

Without hesitation, he went to take a closer look at that incredible sight. When he got nearer something even more extraordinary happened. He heard a powerful voice - a voice with such authority that it made the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end. It was God. That was the day Moses first met God.

Just like Moses, we must all have a personal experience with God. Going to church, hearing about God, listening to other people’s experiences with Him and even having His power manifest in our lives every so often just isn’t enough.

This is the very reason many Christians end up giving up in their faith. They are able to hold on to God’s promises for a little while but it soon becomes impossible to have faith in someone they have never met.

"Honesty really is the best policy!..."

Many people want to have this experience with God but don’t do what’s required in order to have it. God will not simply appear in front of you. Go back and read about Moses’ first time again. You’ll see that firstly he was alone. God speaks to us when we are by ourselves. He won’t speak when we’re busy with others or wrapped up in thoughts of situations which we are going through. God comes to us when we’re having a reality check.
