Help! My baby boy has a cyst

“It’s a boy!” the doctors told me as they placed my baby boy in my arms. I held him and sighed, “The pain was worth it.” He looked so cute with his big brown eyes and soft skin. I simply fell in love with him and named him Kimathi…

The trauma
It was not too long after his birth that my joy was taken away from me.
My son Kimathi had a normal examination of the newborn and the ultrasound showed a cyst on his right kidney. My heart sank and tears fell down my face as I stared at the doctor who spoke to me. What I felt at that moment only a mother would understand. It was a feeling that I just can’t put into words. It was all too much for me to bear…

I had to take him for regular check-ups and he had to get injections to try to stimulate his right kidney to work normally. After taking the first injection, I was told that he needed to come back for a second one.

The light at the end of the tunnel
At this time, I heard about the UCKG HelpCentre. As I started attending the meetings, I found myself relating to the messages. I was really down and going through a stressful time with my baby. Thoughts plagued my mind as I wondered if things could get better. As I attended, I found myself gaining strength and learning more about faith. This encouraged me to believe that there was hope for me. It was at that same period that the Campaign of Israel was announced. As I paid attention to the testimonies of people who saw great results from using their faith and sacrificing for their greatest dream, it triggered me to take that big step and dive in also to see the power of the same God that the pastor and those people were talking about. It was a risk I was taking, as it was my first challenge with God.

As I approached the altar to take my envelope, the pastor spoke to me more about the campaign to give me a clear understanding of what I was doing. He went through everything with me step by step, which was fantastic; this only confirmed to me much more that it was from God.

My request was to see my son’s health restored. I couldn’t continue in life seeing my son suffer; he was not born to suffer, but to live a healthy life as any normal child should.

The vow
To sacrifice for anything that means a lot is not easy. It’s hard, but in the end the outcome overpasses any pain you can go through. This is the frame of mind that I had. I decided to take all that I had in my bank account, savings account and presented all as a vow to God. It may sound a little crazy to some, but that was my faith. I was not told by anyone to do it; it was something that I believed and that’s why I did it. I wouldn’t say life was sweet after that, as it wasn’t. It was tough. I had nothing to my name; however, the assurance of my request materialising kept me going. I knew this was only momentary and would soon turn to victory.

He heard, He saw and He came down to my rescue
After going for regular check-ups at the hospital, the doctors confirmed to me that my son didn’t need the second injection anymore and that he was developing well. The doctor who was responsible for monitoring my son’s progress had this to say:

“Kimathi (son) has been attending my pediatric outpatient clinic at Princess Royal Maternity on a regular basis over the past two years. He is growing well and developing normally. He is speaking sentences in English, which is his first language. ” — DR K KASEM

I truly believe that the doctors had the best interest at heart and helped a lot in my son’s recovery. I also REALISE that putting my faith and trust in God helped me in achieving the blessing I have today — my healthy baby boy!
