Last February we asked you to write to the Planning Inspectorate in support of the appeal against the council’s decision to refuse our planning application. Since refusing that planning application the council has developed new policies in its Area Action Plan for the town that are intended to ensure the building we own on Hoe Street becomes a live entertainment and cinema venue.
Following detailed discussions with the Planning Inspector and the other interested parties we have now submitted a new planning application, which addresses the council’s emerging policy for a leisure led scheme on the site.
The new proposals are for both a HelpCentre and a six-screen cinema together with the training centre, café, youth facilities and bookshop that were included in the previous scheme. This will provide a more vibrant building than any other proposals, and will attract a wide range of users.
This approach gives the Council an opportunity to consider the revised scheme; and if it is approved there will be a significant saving in public money as the appeal will then be withdrawn.
