Spirituality: An essential trait

Constant spiritual renewal enables us to be efficient administrators. A healthy spiritual life is our driving force; it is the foundation of all our principles.

Many great leaders of the past had a strong spiritual life; they had a strong faith and a great trust in God.

A healthy spiritual life helps us to thrive in two different ways: the first way is in our personal relationship with God, and the second way is with our ability to see others as God sees them.

There is a story about a woman who was very religious and “spiritual”. She would go to the temple at 6am every day to pray, and would stay praying until late in the afternoon. She believed that her lengthy prayer sessions were a justifiable reason for not having enough time to care for people who were in need. On one particular day, as she arrived at the temple, she saw a sign on the door that read, “This church has temporary closed. God can be found in every miserable person that you come across. If you want to get close to Him, then go and show some love to your neighbour; because that is where you will find God’s new dwelling place.”

In order to find spiritual strength, inner-peace and the assurance of God’s presence inside us, we must set aside some time for Him every day.

Our spiritual life is very important because our greatest battles are internal battles. When we overcome an internal battle, that is, when we discover a solution, the doubts and other enemies of our faith are fought off and we become sure that what we are doing is right. Our confidence must come from within and not from the opinions of other people.

Finally, doing what is right gives us the assurance that we can be very useful. It also gives us the satisfaction of being able to contribute to something. This satisfaction becomes personal to us - it’s a sense of achievement at being a co-worker with God.
