After a rocky start in life... I found love at 50!

For years they were the 'perfect couple' but when a minor dispute escalated into involvement with witchcraft, Ibironke Olawuyi knew that her fourteen-year marriage had come to an end...

I was in my mid-thirties and suddenly single. Work and church became my priority and my love life took a backseat.

I couldn’t begin to think about trusting another man after the shock and shame of my divorce in 1990. As the years passed I became content with my way of living and had found happiness through the strengthening of my faith at the UCKG.

It was after listening to the Bishop speak about his marriage, that the idea of love came back into my mind. He spoke so openly and encouraged us to fight for our love life.

This and the example of his wife writing a detailed prayer request about her dream, gave me lots to think about. I began my Chain of Prayer at the Partners 4 Life meeting where God was able to open my heart to the prospect of marriage.

"We both attended the Partners for life meetings, not knowing that the
other half was there. God brought us together and now we are
happily married.
"

I changed from rejecting the idea of marriage to writing my own detailed prayer request. The top of my list was that he had to be God fearing - a true man of God. I was very specific with my request. I wanted a man who had divorced or widowed long time ago - but has children.

I wasn’t desperate, I trusted in God, but also took action: I took part in the Campaign of Israel putting my all into it. My dream began to take form without me even noticing.

I immediately clicked with Oladokun - a friend of a friend. Although the relationship was strictly platonic, we got along so well. Oladokun asked for my opinion on an engagement ring he was getting on behalf of a friend. I made the effort to ensure he found a beautiful ring; little did I know that he would later hand it back to me on bended knee! “I couldn’t stop crying at the effort he had made. We were in a restaurant surrounded by friends when he popped the question.” With both of them determined to keep within God’s plan, Ibironke and Oladokun bought their engagement to the Bishop for pre-marital advice sessions. Last Saturday at the UCKG in Finsbury Park, Ibironke and Oladokun celebrated a beautiful church wedding. “He calls me the ‘memorial of God’s faithfulness in his life.’ I have recently turned fifty and am extremely happy. We both want to show people that despite their respective backgrounds when you sacrifice, God is faithful in His response.”
