You and the mirror

It took Julie the good part of 32 years to understand why men seemed uninterested in her. Only when she met Rachel did she realise what was wrong!

Julie would look at herself in the mirror every day and couldn’t help but pick on something every time: “Look at my nose…so big, so ugly. And my lips…so thick. My mouth…so big. My legs…so skinny. The bags under my eyes, make me look 10 years older.” Only these kinds of thoughts came to her mind.

Every morning, instead of making a bright start to her day, Julie destroyed her confidence by making all sorts of negative remarks about herself.Wherever she went, she was sure that people would take no notice of her because of the many things that, in her view, were wrong with her.

"Being blessed in love starts with you...."

Successful Julie was head of a department in an international firm. Summer was approaching and the company was welcoming temporary staff during the holidays. Rachel was one of those replacements. Rachel came into the office and Julie noticed that there was something different about her. By lunchtime she was certain that there was something very different. When Rachel sat to have her lunch many of the males followed suit. Not only at lunchtime, but also during work, Rachel seemed to have male attention all around her.The same happened at the coffee shop after work.

Julie could hardly believe it. Rachel wasn’t very successful and after careful observation Julie saw that Rachel wasn’t a very attractive person, actually, she was really very plain. Why then were all the men attracted to her?

Days passed and that question remained unanswered, so Julie took a bold step and asked a few of her fellow workers about what they saw in Rachel. Julie expected anything but what she heard - it wasn’t beauty or success, or because Rachel was easy. It was the confidence that emanated from her that they found so attractive.
Rachel’s confidence came from the fact that every morning she looked at herself in the mirror and took notice of all that was beautiful about her. She left home with a conviction that she was special.

Rachel’s confidence came from the fact that every morning she looked at herself in the mirror and took notice of all that was beautiful about her. She left home with a conviction that she was special.

The following morning Julie approached her mirror and looked closer than usual. Surprisingly she realised that her eyes were quite beautiful. She smiled and thought, “Hey, what a beautiful smile.”You can imagine what happened after that.

The moral of this story is:What happens when you meet your mirror every day? How do you see yourself? It’s no good praying for a partner if you can’t see what is beautiful about yourself. It’s a fact that if you don’t, nobody else will.
