Recognising that uncontrolled outbursts of anger can result in court appearances and prison sentences, the Finsbury Park Rescue of Dignity (ROD) group launches its first ever free anger management course tomorrow (13.09.07). The course runs for five weeks, starting promptly at 7.00pm, and takes place in the Rainbow Theatre, Seven Sisters Road, Finsbury Park. The ROD group, which is made up of members of the Christian Pentecostal UCKG HelpCentre, supports both remand and sentenced prisoners throughout the UK by means of letter writing and visits, and works on both a practical level and spiritually through prayer. Charles Ajorgbor who leads the ROD group says: "Uncontrolled anger can lead to rash decisions, abuse, and even murder. Helping people to manage their anger can therefore prevent crimes of passion, keep people out of jail and prevent a great deal of trouble and heartbreak in families. “In the long term we would be delighted if the ROD group worked itself out of a job by attacking some of the underlying factors that lead people into violent crime. Of course it will take time, but we are making a start. As with our other work, it will be a great pleasure to see people turn their backs on anger, with all the negativity it implies, and build something positive for the future." Over a five week period, the anger management course will explain anger and its dangers, teach techniques to control it and hear from people who have broken free from its damaging effects. “Though the ROD group reaches out to offenders, UCKG’s anger management course relates to all sorts of people. Housewives, lawyers, businessmen… anyone can have a problem controlling their anger.” For more information and to register please call 020 7686 6000 or visit www.uckg.org. Places on the course are available. ENDS Notes to editors: UCKG is a Christian church and registered charity that offers a range of practical support activities alongside spiritual support and comfort.
