Nigel Benn sells championship
Benn said: “Neither boxing nor the belts mean as much to me anymore – it is all about raising money for God’s Kingdom. Saving souls means more to me than any world titles.” It’s been more than 11 years since the 43-year-old left the ring, when he realised that fame and fortune didn’t bring him true happiness. “You get to the stage where you say to yourself, ‘What’s it all about?’ Being world champion, you had money, you had flash cars – Bentleys, Ferraris – you had a big house, you had women, you had this, you had that, but what was it all about? Where was true happiness? In a nutshell, it was all total destruction. Did the world title bring me happiness? Absolutely not. Did it bring me fame and wealth? That’s about it,” stated Benn.
So many people are fighting for fame and fortune not considering the consequences it brings. We can have fame, but does that mean it will bring happiness? We can have fortune but will we be content? If we really search deep, true happiness comes from giving. So why not lend your support today? Nigel Benn is a great example of what it means to care for others and the neighbourhoods we live in. Join UCKG in its fight to raise 1.6 million by the end of November to save the Peckham HelpCentre in Rye Lane; a place reaching out to its community and helping to prevent crime and violence amongst youngsters.
