Ivory Coast: Universal Youth Group
marches against AIDS

More than 10,000 young people and adults from all over Abidjan, Ivory Coast took part in the country’s first ever march against HIV/AIDS last month. People held placards which read “Ivorian Youth disarm HIV/AIDS” and “Stop AIDS - AIDS, you will not pass by me!”. The march was organised by the Universal Youth Group in partnership with the District of Abidjan and the Ivory Coast Federation of Athletics.

The event was part of a worldwide day of the fight against AIDS. The 10,000 strong walk organised by the UCKG aimed to raise awareness of the growing population of AIDS, warning the Ivorian society that AIDS has become a fierce enemy.

The march lead by the President of the Ivory Coast Federation of Athletics and the head of the UCKG in the Ivory Coast Bishop Vitor started in front of the Headquarters of UCKG in Adjamé 220 and was supervised by the police.

The march closed with a presentation of plays and songs by the Youth Group.
