Former England to launch stricker to Luton
youth football tournament

Released: 04.05.06

Dunstable Town Football Club's 3,500 capacity stadium will host an exciting two-day youth football tournament on the weekend of Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 May. With a special guest appearance from former England and Chelsea striker Kerry Dixon, the event organised by the Victory Youth Group (VYG) in Luton is already attracting high levels of interest from across the region.

The tournament will be the first of its kind in the region. Twelve local teams from junior football clubs, schools, colleges and community groups will play one another in fast-paced, knock-out rounds with the last two teams battling it out for the title on the Sunday.

The youth football tournament is part of an ongoing campaign to revive the Luton area,” said Pastor Alex who heads the VYG in Luton. “Our recent research found that the crime rate in the region is largely due to the fact that many youths have very little to do in their spare time. There is clearly a great need to provide young people with stimulating, constructive activities, so we're aiming to develop a youth support system that will offer both academic support and leisure activities.”

The VYG football tournament is the first event in this ongoing regeneration project and will see the whole community coming together with local businesses and schools all registering their support,” added Pastor Alex. The football tournament kicks off at 10.00am on Saturday 27 May at the Creasey Park Stadium. For more information call 020 7686 6000 or 015 8248 6777.

The Victory Youth Group was set up in 1996 by the UCKG HelpCentre, a Christian church and registered charity, and currently has a regular weekly church-wide attendance of over 1000 youngsters aged 14-24. It provides stimulating, constructive activities for 14-24 year olds including outings, football and basketball competitions, cinema trips and musical events.
