In order to help in tackling a potentially critical shortage and make sure the NHS has the supplies it needs, UCKG regularly calls on its members and non-members, alike. Contributions from Birmingham's ethnic communities are especially valued as they will include some of the rarer blood groups that are also needed by members of those communities in times of illness. “Thanks to the generosity of the local community, we have been able to raise awareness of the importance of giving blood and supply some of the 9,000 units of blood the NBS needs to collect every day to save lives,” said Pastor Edmilson from UCKG in Birmingham. “Giving blood is quick, safe, easy and can save a life. I would urge everyone from the ages of 17 to 59 from all ethnic backgrounds, and older people who have given blood before, to come forward next week,” he added. Each donation will help the NHS to treat people for conditions ranging from leukaemia, to complications of child-birth. It is essential in cases that involve acute blood loss and burns perhaps arising from accidents and emergencies, and in many other potentially life threatening situations. UCKG is a Christian church and registered charity that offers a range of practical support activities alongside spiritual support and comfort. The UCKG is calling on members and non-members alike to come forward and help.
