The new UCKG HelpCentre on Thurland Street, in the heart of the city centre, will be opening its doors to the public for the first time at 12pm on Saturday 20th October. The building has been refurbished as a community resource with a 250 seat auditorium for public worship. It will be offering church services four times a day, at 7.00am, 10.00am, 3.00pm, and 7.30pm, seven days a week. Services will be conducted in English and Portuguese, to meet the needs of the local immigrant community, which includes Portuguese speakers from Europe, Africa and parts of South America. “We’ve made a significant investment in the new Nottingham HelpCentre and we are proud to be opening our 19th HelpCentre in the UK,” said Pastor Paul Hill, head of property for UCKG. “Our services and the individual counselling and support that we provide free of charge for anyone and everyone in need has a focus on life coaching and practical advice. We are here to help as practical Christians.” Bishop Renato Cardoso, who heads UCKG in Britain, will lead the opening day’s service assisted by Pastor Lucas Joachim, who is to be in charge at Nottingham. “We look forward to welcoming members of the local community, church members and regular attendees to informal worship that aims to connect people with God without undue ceremony getting in the way,” said Bishop Renato. The HelpCentre will offer a range of support groups and outreach, a training centre, and one-to-one advice for people who need individual help. The training centre will offer courses that lead to recognised qualifications; and the youth ministry, Victory Youth Group (VYG), will provide young people with a familiar place they can turn to for practical, moral and ethical advice, and guidance with a range of lively social activities. A crèche, Kids Zone, will be available for children of parents attending church and participating in other UCKG activities.
