500 young people helped to fast
track their careers

Released: 01.06.06

Over 500 young people, mostly from black and ethnic minority communities, were briefed on effective studying and laying the foundations for successful careers at the UCKG HelpCentre headquarters in Finsbury Park, last weekend.

Dr Danni Novakovic of London Metropolitan University, whose PhD is in maths and computer science told the 14 - 25 year olds: “The future is yours. If you have a clearly defined aim nothing is impossible.”

Organised by UCKG's Victory Youth Group (VYG), the event focused on a lively question and answer session. Dr Novakovic gave practical advice on time management, coping with heavy workloads and motivation. She provided numerous hints and tips for effective studying and advised that: “Aiming high and applying both determination and faith is an extremely powerful formula for success.”

Dr Novakovic's presentation was arranged in association with an ongoing VYG lecture programme for young people that addresses the issues that are most important at this stage in their lives. “We have started a long term initiative to help young people achieve their goals,” said Pastor Luke Castro, Head of VYG operations in the UK .

It is essential that young people realise their full potential, for their own benefit and for the sake of the wider community and the country. The combination of fun activities, practical support, and spiritual guidance has already helped numerous young people to take control of their lives and improve their prospect.”

The Victory Youth Group was set up in 1996 by the UCKG Helpcentre and currently has a regular church-wide attendance of over 1000 youngsters every week. For more information on forthcoming youth lectures or for details of your nearest VYG branch, call 020 7686 6000 or visit www.uckg.org./vyg
