Wood Green community centre gets treated to a Bupa
staff makeover

Children and staff at UCKG’s HelpCentre in Wood Green, Greater London, are celebrating after the Kids Zone was chosen for a revamp as part of a project run by Bupa Community Connections.

The challenge is one of many taking place to improve communities around the world, following on from the success of last year’s Global Challenge which saw 60 Bupa employees working at an orphanage in Northern Thailand for Bupa’s 60th anniversary.

The Community Connections project aims to restore schools, improve park areas and revamp community centres, and has positively made an impact in 200 communities since 2001.

The refurbishment at the Wood Green centre involved around 30 Bupa staff mucking in with a variety of tasks such as painting, installing blinds and cupboards and giving the place a general spring clean. There was also some fun and games for the children that attend the centre creating a great community atmosphere.

Vivian Katso, at UCKG, said; “We’re very fortunate that Bupa chose our centre as part of their community scheme. The Kids Zone was very run down and in need of redecorating. It’s great for the children who attend the centre, as well as the staff that work there, as it will give them somewhere nice and welcoming to come to and will make a significant difference to the people attending.”

Claire Atkinson, Community Affairs Officer for Bupa, said; “We are really excited about working with UCKG as part of our Community Connections work. The Bupa Group continually strives to make a positive impact on the communities, in which it operates, donating money and volunteering time to both UK and international causes.“

In the future, Bupa and UCKG are working on more projects in UCKG HelpCentres around London. For more details please contact Asheto Scott on 0207 686 6006, extension 6152, or email ash@uckg.org.

The Wood Green centre is located at 54a High Road and UCKG welcomes anyone to come along and view the hard work that’s been undertaken.
