Shocking figures reveal under-eights are
binge drinking

New figures released this week reveal shocking statistics of hundreds of drunk under-eights have been treated in hospital casualty departments in the past six years.

The Metro newspaper said that these children are among the sharply rising numbers of under-18s who need medical help after alcohol binges.

Campaigners feel that the problem is because not enough is being done to protect these vulnerable youngsters from inexpensive and accessible alcohol. They also feel that irresponsible adults are to blame.

Norman Lamb, the Liberal Democrat health spokesman said, “These are shocking figures, reflecting a culture where binge-drinking is truly out of control. A child admitted to hospital because of alcohol before their ninth birthday is likely to suffer dreadful health consequences later in life.” He also feels that shops and pubs selling alcohol to these youngsters should be punished and that drinks manufacturers, retailers and parents should be more responsible.

The above would certainly help but are manufacturers and parents always to blame? What if a child has a deeper rooted problem that needs addressing?

Every last Sunday of the month, the blessing of the children takes place in all UCKGs. Prayers are made for your children to remove any negativity that may be trying to affect their lives as well as prayers for protection. Parents are also prayed for to have wisdom in how to best help their children to be happy, well-rounded individuals.

The next blessing of the children will take place on 30th March at 10am.
