The power of a praying parent

It’s the best of jobs. It’s the most difficult of jobs. It can bring you the greatest joy. It can cause the greatest pain. There is nothing as fulfilling and exhilarating.

There’s nothing so depleting and exhausting. No area of your life can make you feel more like a success when everything is going well. No area of your life can make you feel more like a failure when things go wrong.

PARENTING!

The word itself can bring contradictory emotions to the surface. We try to do the best we can raising our children. Then, just when we think we’ve got the parenting terrain all figured out, we suddenly find ourselves in new territory again as each new age and stage presents another set of challenges.

We can start right now - this very minute, in fact - making a positive difference in our child’s future. It’s never too early and never too late.

It doesn’t matter if the child is three days old and perfect, or thirty years old and going through a third divorce because of an alcohol problem. At every stage of their lives our children need and will greatly benefit from our prayers.

The key is not trying to do it all by ourselves all at once, but rather turning to the expert parent of all time - our Father God - for help.

Since January (and throughout 2008), the UCKG has set aside the last Sunday of every month to bless the children of everybody who attends the Sunday morning service.

The praying points for children are endless. But here are a few that you can think about:

• Good health, healing.

• School life and academic development.

• Protection from accidents, violence, crimes, terrorist attacks, disease, etc. • Good behaviour, obedience.

• Adults and teens: that God will bless their marriage or prepare the right person for them to marry.

• Work and career, that they will succeed and find their calling in life.

• Their salvation.

• That children will bring parents honour and not shame.

The next blessing of the children will take place on Sunday 30th March. Bring your children (no matter how old they are) for this special blessing and discover the joy that comes from being a part of God’s work in your child’s life.

You can also attend the Happy Parenting workshop that meets at 11am on the last Saturday of each month. During these meetings you can take part in exciting activities together with your children, to help nurture a strong bond between you and your family.
