London youths stabbed to death
Amro Elbadawi, 14, staggered into a health centre in Queen's Park, north-west London at around 5pm yesterday. Staff tried to save him, but he was pronounced dead after he was taken to St Mary's hospital, Paddington. Amro was a British national with family originating from Egypt. Det Ch Insp Andy Mortimer, from the Metropolitan Police's Homicide and Serious Crime Command, said: "Amro's life has been cut short in a needless manner before it has really begun. He was loved by his family and friends who are devastated. I would urge anyone who may have information to come forward and help us with our investigation." Earlier, on Thursday Devoe Roach, 17, was stabbed several times in the stomach in Stamford Hill, North London, after an argument with another man in a shopping street. The youth staggered a few meters before collapsing on the pavement at around 10am and losing consciousness. His attacker fled north on foot as bystanders tried to save his victim's life. The victim received help from paramedics at the scene, but was pronounced dead on arrival at the Royal London hospital in Whitechapel. It is not yet known how many people were involved in the attack or if it was gang-related. The Victory Youth Group (VYG), which aims to reverse this negative trend; has seen many cases of young people who were also lost in the world of violence. Many came to the VYG through an invitation from a friend or as a bid to escape the violence that surrounded them; and are now also helping to try and reach out to others who may be in a similar situation. The VYG opens its doors to young people aged 14 to 25 year olds and offers practical help as well as free counselling and advice. Its aim is to help young people develop their full potential in a positive way; and many have already seen a benefit in various areas of their life. Read more about the VYG and read the case studies of its members.
