Bigger, better helpline inaugurated
Originally, based in a small office at the back of the Rainbow Theatre, the Helpline has undergone extension and refurbishments since 14th March 2008, to enhance the tranquil atmosphere required to receive calls in order to provide a more excellent service for those who seek help and advice. Inaugurated last Friday, the Helpline is now equipped with a new computer system, cubicles, air conditioning and an LCD screen-to keep volunteers informed and updated of incoming calls, among other things. “With the growth of the church, the work of the Helpline must be in stride with its growth,” said Helpline manager, Julie Tedeschi. “The added cubicles are provided to cater for future events, such as the ‘Signs Event’ which we had before. At that time it was a struggle to keep up with the high volume of calls along with not having a place for everyone to be together while taking the calls. Over the years, on average, we get eleven thousand first time callers annually. We receive calls resulting from the TV programmes, when the City News is distributed and from ongoing evangelisation, so the change is necessary.” Why a UCKG helpline? The helpline was created with unchurched people in mind - those who are spiritually desperate with no one else to turn to. It acts as a first point of contact for those who know nothing of the HelpCentre and the help it provides. This does not mean however that it neglects the need of church members. On the contrary, it is also there for the critical times of a member’s life. Our Aim Our aim is to give a helping hand to those who stumble, have fallen, and those who have never had a chance in life. As the first point of contact for many would-be church.
