Finding out All About Women

You’ve seen the adverts, and checked out the website now its time to discover what All About Women has in store for us. UCKG Web News talks to the host of the show Evelyn Higginbotham (second from right in the photo).

Q1. There are many women's programmes around at the moment. What makes All About Women (AAW) different, what new thing will this show bring?

In some ways this show can be compared to the popular programme, Loose Women that airs on ITV, which as far as I know, is the only talk show with a panel of different women that discuss current events and topics. All About Women will be taking it a step further, by not only discussing topics but offering solutions and ideas to help women overcome the daily struggles they so often face. This is not going to be a Christian programme or overtly spiritual in any way, yet the fact that each one of us are women of faith, our Christian values will definitely come through, and believe me, there is no other English women’s progamme that even comes close!

Q2. You and your co-hosts are all so different, how do you think this will contribute to the show?

Well as I said, we’re all women of faith, which binds us together no matter what our backgrounds are, so in that regard we’re not so different. Our hope, though, is that because each of us have had different life experiences it will enrich our discussions and help women from all walks of life to relate to us on different levels. We have a mix of English, Greek Cypriot, Kenyan, Filipino, American, Colombian and Korean experiences among the four of us, so there’s a good chance that we’ll have plenty to agree and disagree on!

Q3. What kind of things can we expect to see in the programme?

Each show is going to focus on a specific topic that relates to women in particular. Our first will be discussing the issue of women and self esteem. We’ll have interviews of people on the streets of London, current news articles that illustrate different aspects of the topic, we’ll talk about our own experiences and give practical advice and tips. We’d also like to read viewers comments and questions on the air, so anyone who’d like to write in is more than welcome.

Q4. In terms of the issues discussed how deep are you really going to go? Can we expect a little controversy, e.g. dealing with issues other talk shows would simply avoid?

It’s funny that many talk shows discuss and laugh about things that are crude and what I would consider inappropriate, and yet topics that are really pertinent such as abuse or broken marriages are often glossed over and treated as material that’s too heavy to deal with. We, however, have no problems diving into the nitty-gritty of these sort of things, but at the same time want to keep a positive energy going throughout the show. We’re ready to grapple with tough stuff, yet we never want to lose our sense of humour.
