Breaking barriers of tradition

Incredible as it may seem, one of the things that has confused man the most is religion. It muddles, creates barriers, divides and separates people from one another-you only have to look at the origins of wars to know that-but most tragically, it distances them from God Himself.

But funnily enough, people still cling on to it for dear life… that is, until they come face to face with the real power of God. Such was the case when the UCKG held a special meeting in Cyprus-one of the most religious countries in Europe-earlier this month.

The ‘great and powerful’ meeting, as described by Pastor Thomson who held the service in a hotel, was prompted after a UCKG member who’d moved to Cyprus alerted the pastor in the UK of the people’s suffering there.

“She found the situation disgraceful,” said Pastor Thompson. “The worse thing was that people were suffering not knowing that there was a God who could change their lives. She contacted the church here (UK) and started telling people about the meetings there (Cyprus) and that’s when everything started.”

Leaflets were created, and a date was set for the meeting where the Blessed Handkerchief would be used. But while the people were friendly and open to the invitation, overcoming the ‘religion barrier’ was the next step.

“The people in Cyprus understand the things of God but they have difficulties believing that God can perform miracles today, and this is mainly because they are religious,” he added.

“But we still got a good response. We spent practically the whole day evangelising. We walked for more than eight hours speaking to people on the streets, giving them leaflets and inviting them to the meeting. We even had sunstroke from being in the sun so long, but it was worth it. Most of the people who attended the meeting came through the evangelisation on the streets."

The meeting itself was a true testimony of God’s power. The results of the strong prayers and prayer of faith were almost immediate as people testified of their healing.
“There was a man who was unable to walk properly for 10 years who received his healing after the prayer. He was so happy that he even hugged and kissed me. A lady, who came in with a walking stick because she could no walk properly, left the meeting completely without need of it. The meeting was great and powerful. Another man was so blessed that he wanted to take me to his house and introduce me to his entire family!”

The people were so happy that when they heard that the next meeting would only be held in a month’s time, they were saddened because they wanted it to be sooner. The next meeting in Cyprus will be held on June 1st, 6pm.
