“Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see
the glory of God?” (John 11.40)
While we live in this world, we are
all subject to facing hard times.
Everybody feels sad when
something goes wrong and this is normal; but
even though you may feel sad, you shouldn’t
allow that emotion to dictate the way you
react towards your problems.
When Lazarus passed away, Jesus felt the death of his close friend. He was troubled in spirit and even shed some tears, but if He kept on crying - allowing his human emotions to take over, it would have been impossible for Lazarus to ever see daylight again.
Having decided to stop crying, Jesus headed straight to where the problem was - inside Lazarus’ tomb. Switching to faith mode, Jesus was able to perform one of His greatest miracles, raising Lazarus from the dead, and it’s because of this that many people believed and were saved.
Today, many Christians find themselves crying instead of using their faith. Their tears blur their spiritual vision so they are not able to see the light at the end of the tunnel. They give up hope and can no longer believe that the situation can still be solved. This greatly displeases God for two main reasons: First, because there is no evidence of faith being used and second, because it places limits on what He can do.
God gave us emotions to express our joy, not to solve our problems. That is why many people’s lives move forward so slowly, or are completely stuck altogether. They act when they feel good, when they are happy, and things are going well. But if bad news comes against them, that’s it - they are doomed. They are unable to move on, get over their loss and fight back.
Although it is normal to have feelings, you need to learn when to disable them and when switch to faith mode. If you give in to your emotions, you’ll end up taking desperate actions that may ruin your life. You can always change your life for the better, regardless of how you feel.
No one can be truly happy until they begin to live by faith, which is what brings about joy, happiness, fulfilment, enjoyment, satisfaction, and confidence. But feelings will never lead you to faith.
