To overcome means to defeat obstacles and triumph over challenges; to go beyond what other people say we are unable to do. We have to surpass external and internal barriers every day.
There are different kinds of challenges for different people. For example, youths have the challenge to become responsible. Elderly people have the challenge of surviving after retirement. Women are not ‘first choice’ managers and those who are disabled, religious or immigrants are often victims of prejudice and racism.
The Holy Scriptures teach us how to overcome through the story of a lady: “Now a woman, having a flow of blood for twelve years, who had spent all her livelihood on physicians and could not be healed by any, came from behind and touched the border of His garment. And immediately her flow of blood stopped. And Jesus said, “Who touched Me? When all denied it, Peter and those with Him said, “Master, the multitudes throng and press You, and You say, “Who touched Me?” But Jesus said, “Somebody touched Me, for I perceived power going out of Me.”Now when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling; and falling down before Him, she declared to Him in the presence of all people the reason she had touched Him and how she was healed immediately. And He said to her, “Daughter, be of good cheer; your faith has made you well. Go in peace.”
Notice that:
1. She OVERCAME her own pain. (She had been suffering for twelve years).
2. She OVERCAME her doubts concerning God’s healing. (She had probably wasted a lot of money on doctors and medication).
3. She OVERCAME the religious prejudices against women in those times. (According to Moses’ Law, women were considered as unclean during their period and were isolated).
4. She OVERCAME the crowd. (Surely she had to fight through the crowd to be able to touch the Lord’s garment).
5. She OVERCAME the fear of exposing herself to the crowd. (She had to declare that it was her who touched Jesus’ garment).
Maybe you say: “But, this has nothing to do with my financial life?” Yes, it does! As that flow of blood, many people’s money and efforts vanish without them achieving the targets they want. You need to overcome in your finances:
1. Don’t accept defeat, even if you’ve tried many times.
2. It is very important to overcome doubts, to believe that God can change any situation.
3. Believe that God’s will is not for us to be just anyone.
4. Remember that He called us to touch His garment by faith and take His power.
5. To reject the ‘theology of poverty’ that says that we have to be content and give thanks in everything including misery and that God loves the poor and hates the rich.
It is about time we use our strength to overcome our weaknesses, poverty and financial ruin.
May God bless you all abundantly,
