Can you resist injustice? Let God be the one who fights for you
This is definitely one of the most controversial points in Christian life.
When the person who doesn’t have the character of the Lord Jesus Christ sees himself under injustice, he quickly tries to obtain justice with his own hands, trying to show others that he is right, or even worse, paying injustice with injustice.
We have learned however, that we should not “...resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also. And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two.” (Matthew 5.39-41)
We should learn to understand injustice, since it is through this we are tested and approved. If we wish to know the true character of a person, we must carefully observe him in moments of trial. King David said: “Let the righteous strike me; it shall be a kindness. And let him rebuke me; it shall be as excellent oil; let my head not refuse it.” (Psalms 141.5)
If we want to have a character like King David, a man according to God’s own heart, we must learn that our cause has been and will always be before the just God.
If someone does injustice against us, we must trust in our just God Who, sooner or later, will turn the injustice made against us, into justice. This gives place to joy and happiness when we look back and see that we went through tribulation, but overcame it.
Therefore, we must never try to defend ourselves with the strength of our own hands. Instead, we must humble ourselves before God, trusting that the just Judge will grant us victory.
When we try to defend ourselves, we not only put the just Judge aside, but we will also put our spiritual life at risk, since the old nature will manifest again and lead us to total defeat in life.
For a natural man, it is impossible to give in to the injustices done against him and trust in God. This is why cemeteries are full. How many people lose their lives trying to defend their ‘rights’? Now they are six feet under, and many didn’t even see justice.
We finally learn that God’s justice is revealed in the Gospel, as it is written: “Now the just shall live by faith; but if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.” (Hebrews 10.38)
