For the hurting

Where do you turn when the people you love the most are hurting you? How can you reveal something so shameful?

Abuse comes in a wide variety of forms, seen and unseen, physical or emotional - and all painful. Scars and bruises of domestic violence are clear signs of an abused woman or child. Sexual abuse is less noticeable, but leaves deep, open wounds in the heart and mind of the victim. Emotional abuse is often not understood or even recognised as abuse at all - many abusers have persuasive excuses as to why they had to treat this “loved one” in such a hateful way, humiliating them, tearing down their self-esteem, manipulating them to be dependant and unable to make their own decisions.

If you or someone you know is a victim of abuse, you can get help. You just need the courage to admit that you need help, that you deep and painful wounds that need healing, not just covering up.

Perhaps the abuse took place years ago, but does that mean that the effects of that abuse are all gone. It’s time to shift out of the mode of denial and pretense and be honest about your need to find total healing from every wound.

If you are enduring an abusive relationship now, God can give you the direction and strength to make the right choices with His wisdom and protection. It has already happened to many women, it can happen to you.

A meeting for abused women (or loved ones of those who are abused) takes place at the UCKG headquarters in Finsbury Park. Call 020 7686 6000 for more information.
