“The person I lived with made me feel so small. I had to ask permission before going anywhere or doing anything. She would speak to me as if I was a child and I couldn’t defend myself, because I needed a place to stay.” Current made huge efforts to get work. He got ten rejections one after the other, all because he didn’t have a visa. He couldn’t even afford to phone his wife and son back in Zimbabwe, let alone send them money to support themselves. “I saw a poster advertising an immigration service at the UCKG so I went along.” After making Chains of Prayer, Current still had no stay in the country. He spoke to a pastor, who told him that he would never be free as long as he depended on other people. Current went away with the determination to change things. He moved out of his friend’s house without a clue of where he would sleep that night, simply to prove that he was not going to depend on her anymore, and as he was walking down the road, he saw a restaurant and walked in. He asked to see the manager and then asked him for a job. He left the restaurant 10 hours later with £50 in his pocket and used it to book a room for the week. He had his first job in the UK. When the Campaign of Israel came around Current took part for his immigration situation. The very next day he went to the Home Office to fill out his application. “I refused to lie on the form and told the Home Office that I left my country for a better life and that I didn’t want benefits and that I just wanted to work.” “During the next Campaign of Israel, I told God that I needed my wife and child with me. In December last year I sacrificed my month’s salary and by March my family joined me. And it took my wife just two weeks to find a job.” In both Campaigns, God answered Current’s prayers. He has now laid the foundation for bigger and better things. “My family is happy and we are now pursuing bigger things to glorify God.” Current Muganga, Life can be different if you take charge and decide to make things different.
