Romania was supposed to join the EU in January 2007 and I didn’t know yet if the English government was going to allow us to work here like Polish people. I was praying for it because they were supposed to make the decision exactly after I sacrificed. Unfortunately they didn’t give permission for Romanians to work in the UK.

Though I was disappointed at the decision I was not disheartened. The pastor was saying all the time, ‘Cristina, if God has to change the law for you, He will do it.

So I took the law that said we were not allowed to work and I started to read up on it. I I said, “God you have to show me what I should do. How should I send my papers to the Home Office if I don’t have a reason? What should I ask them?"

I decided to apply for a HSMP visa (High Skilled Migrant Programme) even though I knew I wasn’t qualified for it.

You had to be skilled, earn a lot of money and have a good job - like a doctor, to apply for a HSMP. But I still took the form. I was very honest in telling them that the skills I had were only as an au pair. I held nothing back. They responded by sending all my documents and my blue card saying that I had residence and no restrictions on employment in the UK. For me that was like, ‘Wow’ because all my friends were in the same situation and they had been refused.

This process usually takes months, but it took only 2 weeks for me after taking part in the Campaign. I've learned that God is able to do all things.

What is a Campaign of faith?

Pray for me
