More about prayer

Welcome to the UCKG (Universal Church of the Kingdom of God) HelpCentre.

We are a down-to-earth Pentecostal church, which is active in 100 countries. There are UCKG churches and church groups in various parts of London, the Home Counties, Midlands, and North West.

Through years of experience we have seen that a Christian lifestyle brings great happiness and peace of mind, and often, better health and greater prosperity.

On attending one of our church services, you may find ours different to what you are used to. This is because we believe it is important to connect directly with God, un-hindered by ritual and formality.

Bless you!

Bishop Julio Cesar

About our services

The purpose of UCKG church services is to recognise God's power, goodness, generosity, and love for mankind and to pray for the congregation's needs to be met, both spiritually and physically

Services are informal and interactive. They are led by a bishop or pastor, assisted by other fully trained UCKG pastors. Prayers are spoken aloud, not read from a prayer book. They come from the heart and are spontaneous, informal and relevant to the moment.

While certain elements occur in most services, the order of the service is a direct result of the leading pastor's prayer and consecration to God. Thus the act of communion in our Sunday Services can come at any time during the service.

Weekday Services are flexible and seek to meet the needs of the congregation. The pastor prays short prayers; and people are encouraged to voice their worries. They receive words of encouragement and practical advice from the Bible. Services last about an hour.

Sunday Services are firstly for baptised members of the church and go into greater depth over the course of about an hour and a half. They include Bible readings and prayer and the congregation is encouraged to seek the Holy Spirit.

What you might see

  • Opening prayer. Led by the pastor. The congregation joins in, with each person praying aloud in their own words. We believe that God hears each person's heartfelt prayer.
  • Strong prayer. When prayers are made on behalf of the congregation seeking a spiritual resolution to difficult human problems.
  • Communion. Obeys Jesus' command to his followers to commemorate His Last Supper with the consecration of bread and wine, which is shared by those present.
  • Anointing. The act of placing a small amount of holy oil upon the person (usually their head) and making a healing prayer. The Bible says, “Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick…” (James 5:13)
  • Donations. The pastor will ask those who are willing to contribute to the church's general and specific funds. There is absolutely no compulsion to give.
  • Bible readings. From the Old and New Testaments.
  • Announcements. The pastor tells the congregation about the running of the church and its social and support activities.
  • Closing prayer. Seeks God's blessing on the congregation as they prepare to resume their everyday lives.

Who you will see

  • Pastor/Bishop. The service will be conducted by a fully trained pastor or bishop. These are men of God (and in some countries also women) who have embraced the ministry on a full time basis. They do not have other employment and their only aim is to serve God by serving and helping the congregation and others in the community that need assistance. On gaining more experience, pastors may then be chosen to serve as bishops.
  • Assistant Pastor. Assistant pastors will also be present in the services and their role is to assist the pastor or bishop. They also have embraced the ministry full-time to help others. After some years of experience, many of them will be consecrated to become a pastor.
  • Assistants. Assistants are voluntary helpers who dedicate some of their free time outside their daily life of work, family, domestic duties etc, to this calling. They have been chosen from among the congregation to assist the assistant pastors, pastors and bishops and to serve the members of the church.

You will find that most bishops, pastors, assistant pastors, and assistants have been through personal problems in the past before they started attending the church.

Through the teaching and prayers they received at the UCKG, they used their faith and overcame these situations. They have all had a personal encounter with God and have undergone a transformation of self. They are therefore willing and capable of assisting you through difficult situations.

Please introduce yourself to one of them who will be more than happy to sit down and speak with you for however long you need. Alternatively, call 020 7686 6000 to book an appointment.

More about prayer

UCKG clergy and members believe that prayer is effective in helping people to live better and happier lives, and that spiritual healing can result from prayer. Those who pray often seem to gain a sense of peace and communion with God and resolve their problems as a result.

Prayer seems to work more quickly for some people than others – depending on the individual, their faith and attitude towards God and prayer.

A Chain of Prayer is regular prayer over a period of seven weeks. People generally commit to making chains of prayer to resolve some issue that is troubling them. Chains of Prayer are made by the person seeking an answer, together with a Pastor and members of the congregation.

UCKG's experience is that on average, people feel better during the course of a Chain of Prayer and that the optimum effect occurs within about a year.
